Monel Cable Link

Monel, specifically Monel 400 , is a widely used nickel-copper alloy for internal components of crude oil desalter vessels due to its superior resistance to corrosion from hydrogen chloride (HCl), sulfur compounds, and brackish water at high temperatures.

Key Applications of Monel in Desalter Vessels

  • Internal Components: Used in high-temperature vessels, petroleum distillation, and hydrocarbon processing equipment, particularly in areas subject to shock condensation where chlorides are present.
  • Cable/Wire: Used in specialized applications requiring high strength and resistance to marine/saltwater environments.

Key Properties for Desalter Applications

  • Corrosion Resistance: High resistance to seawater, brine, and hydrogen chloride at high temperatures.
  • Temperature Tolerance: Maintains high strength at elevated temperatures, often operating well up to 1,000°F (538°C)
  • Non-magnetic: High-nickel content ensures low magnetic permeability, useful for specific instrumentation applications within the vessel.
