A desalter transformer entrance bushing is a specialized electrical component used in refinery units—especially in crude oil desalting systems—to safely carry high voltage from a transformer into the desalter vessel.

What it is Desalter Transformer Entrance Bushing

A transformer entrance bushing is an insulated device that allows a conductor (live high-voltage line) to pass through a grounded barrier (like a transformer tank or desalter vessel wall) without electrical breakdown.
In a desalter unit, this bushing connects the high-voltage transformer to the electrostatic grid electrodes inside the desalter.

Application in Desalter Units

In crude oil refining, desalters remove salts, water, and impurities using electrostatic separation.
How it works:

  • Crude oil + wash water enters the desalter.
  • A high-voltage electric field (typically 15–35 kV AC/DC) is applied.
  • Water droplets coalesce and settle due to the electric field.
  • Clean crude exits; brine is removed.
